What is the origin of funeral sprays?

I was just wondering why they have them and what started families having them at funerals? what is the origin of doing this? I looked on line and all I can fins is how to order flowers,

I think that is a morbid idea. I have never heard of such an event taking place and I cannot fathom decorating a restaurant with flowers from a funeral.

Hell no! The funeral company's water bill is gonna be huge! And plus the restaurant's guests will get hella mad.
