What flowers grow best in bayfront mississippi?

I'm going to go plant a garden for my Grandma, and she lives like 15 minutes from the ocean in MS so its very very humid and below sea-level (I think).
What flowering plants
You can grow anything, the list is endless, well, almost. I would advise you to go along to your local garden center, take grandma if possible, choose

If your grandmother lives in an area considered below sea level, then whatever you plant should thrive, because there is more carbon dioxide available

You can grow just about anything in Jackson. Plant things you love. Try parkseeds.com, waysidegarden.com, burpeeseeds.com -- there are many on line.

Why does Louisiana and Mississippi have the same state flower?

It appears that Louisiana and Mississippi both have the Magnolia as their state flowers. I thought each state had it's own unique flower. Doesn't this seem a little strange? Does any
A number share the same flower. A lot also share the same bird. I would guess a number share other state "things", like state tree.
