Does anyone know of any native, hardy Tennessee flowers/shrubs?

I would like to plant some colorful flowers/shrubs for my grandma who just had hip surgery. She can't take care of them so I need a really low maintenece plant. Preferably one that
Dogwood and Redbud, to name two.

What flowers bloom in East Tennessee around the end of August?

I'm getting married in East Tennessee next August, can't decide on flowers, so I was wondering what flowers are in bloom around late August.
Marigolds, cosmos, annual asters, black-eyed susans, strawflowers (helichrysum).

I mean CHEAP. Very tight budget. We can arrange them ourselves... my sister is GREAT at arranging flowers. Any ideas appreciated.
